Lu Dlamini 2 LR
No stranger to the stage, whenever talented Lu Dlamini performs the audience is transfixed by her music and carried on a magical journey. Vocalist Lu Dlamini is influenced by her journey in life and to a lesser degree, the many artists she has worked with in her career. It is mostly traditional African music influences such as amahubo, umakhweyana and isichathamiya that speak to her as a vocalist and composer. There is also a little bit of umubholoho (african choral) and an afro jazz element to her sound.

Acoustic by nature, her music features the exquisite instrumentation by the likes of Sbusiso Zondi on drums, Mazwakhe Gumede on Bass and Barney Bophela on Keys.

The Still Sessions is a new monthly music and dining experience brought to you by Distillery031 and iSupport Music Business. Distillery031 is Durban’s first craft distillery and home to an intimate cocktail bar and dining area. UK trained chefs Jordan and Net Semple server gourmet street food prepared with locally sourced ingredients to accompany the distillery’s range of signature cocktails. D031 distills fine spirits in small batches using all natural ingredients. Their range includes vodka, gin, rum, cachaca and absinthe. iSupport Music Business is 5 year old management, booking and events company that has been organising concerts at various venues in the province. For this first event The Still Sessions feature experimental vocalist Zoe The Seed and all-female jazz/pop band Heels over Head. Both bands will present themselves in a slightly stripped down version that matches the intimate setting.

Zoe the Seed is a Durban based musician that is currently working on an experimental sound that carries a distinct texture of African modal sounds and contemporary jazz. Her vocal expressions tackle the deepest emotion to the listener, since everyday experiences that people go through is what influences her writing. The lyrical content promotes love, respect and stands against women and child abuse. Fusing different styles like jazz and hip hop beats has been her way to interest and introduce young people to the jazz genre.

An accomplished band will be joining Zoe The Seed on stage: Sanele Phakathi on keys, Ildo Nandja on bass and Sbu Zondi on percussion.

The love of jazz music weaved Heels over Head together towards to end of 2008 to form this unique musical force. Since then the girls are always occupied with composing, rehearsing and recording new music and with lots of performances around KwaZulu Natal and the country.

Their music is referred to as smooth jazz or easy-breezy pop jazz, they developed a notable and clever signature sound that consists of current African-influenced music and uniquely re-arranged standards. The band is known for making the audience get on their feet and dance to their rhythmic bass lines and their cheerful melodies.

With their sparkling stage presence the ladies always look classy and stylish and you cannot miss the charm and charisma of their lead vocalists Thulile Zama and Nomkhosi Mazibuko. They are joined by skilled drummer Rebekah Doty and accomplished pianist Mandy Cobbing. Last but not least smoking hot guitarist Chillie Wardell-Stent joins the band and the flaming fusion of musicians is complete.

No doubt that fans take joy in listening to some Heels over Head; the African jazz ambiance, skilled musicians and vocalists and well-founded rhythm works enchanting.
