In association with Concerts SA, iSupport Music Business presents a performance of Solomon Willy and Zethe.

Willy will visit Seaman’s Corner in Hammarsdale on Saturday 1 October and Zethe Luthuli Museum in Groutville on Friday 7 October.

Solomon Willy is a performing artist, guitarist, composer and a music producer and now Durban-based musician. Born in the City of Warri in Nigeria and was first exposed to music in his early age as a member of children’s church choir. He later learnt to play drums and keyboards, and in his secondary school days he develop more interest on the lead guitar, studying the instrument at a local music school.

He formed his band in 2009 and his music career took center stage when he was selected in a talent search audition at the Durban SABC to perform at the 2010 Fifa World Cup Fan Festival Stages in Durban and the judges where Neil Comfort, Malcolm Nheko and they said they were blown away by his performance and gave him more platform as a new talent. He also received an Award from the Department of Arts and Culture Kwazulu-Natal Eastern Region for band search 2011 at the Pavilion, Durban. He has performed throughout Nigeria and South Africa, and Australia with Keychange Music Project; he performed in nine cities in Australia in 2009 as a lead guitarist in a band backing a tour by a South African Zulu Choir. He is planning a debut single, followed by an album, later in the year.

Solomon Willy and his band are extremely versatile and professional to the core, a team with vast experience from playing at various corporates functions and jazz festivals. The exciting band offers original compositions and extensive mix of popular tasteful African music and jazz standards hits.

Mr. Solomon Willy has worked with great musicians doing both studio recording sessions and live performances in corporate events, gospel music concerts, Jazz festivals, Jazz Centre’s etc. and he has done guitar recording sessions on many popular albums both in Gospel and Circular music.

His influences include: Norman Brown, Fela Kuti, Salif Keita, Tony Grey, Louis Mhlang, George Benson, Santana, Mike Okri, Victor Wiafo, Angelique Kidjo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Rex Jim Lawson and more. Some of the most exciting moments of his career were performing at the Durban Jazz Festivals, UGU Jazz Festivals, 2010 World Cup Celebration and many others. Solomon Willy Profile has been published on several South African magazines and news papers on numerous occasions. Endorsed by Parker Guitars South Africa and JVB Strings Australia. He is member of SAMRO, KUMISA and also a session guitarist for the following groups: African Sinakho Disability Theatre, Unlockedkeys, Soul Trill, Jazz Connections.

Solomon Willy’s band will be: Solomon Willy on guitar, Siphesihle Mngwengwe on keys, Sbu Zondi on drums and Ntuthuko Hlongwa on bass.

Zethe
ZetheZethe (Zethembiso Mdletshe) is a Afro/soul/Jazz vocalist based in Durban. She has a degree in Music, majoring in Jazz from University of KwaZulu-Natal. She has performed in various venues around the province. Including The Centre for Jazz, The Jazzy Rainbow, The Durban Playhouse, Bat Centre, The Chairman, Bertoua, Alliance Française. She has also worked with Uzalo drama series, SAFTA awards, Durban International Film Festival just to name a few. She has been featured on radio stations and TV programs such as Gagasi FM, Ukhozi FM and 1KZN. Currently she is performing around Durban performing her original compositions and her single.

Her line up will consist of Zibusiso Makhathini on keys, Freeman Gumede on bass guitar and Riley Giandhari on drums.

These performances are part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to grow a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.

Concerts SA is a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project housed within the SAMRO Foundation. Concerts SA receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO, the SAMRO Foundation and Concerts Norway. Working with musicians, promoters, venue owners and audiences, and providing support to the sector through research and skills development for music professionals, the project aims to build a vibrant and viable live music circuit in southern Africa. It also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.
