Vocalist Nicky Shange at Seaman’s Corner in Hammarsdale

In association with Concerts SA, iSupport Music Business presents Nicky Shange Live in concert. Shange and her band will visit Seaman’s Corner in Hammarsdale on Saturday 04 March.

Nicky Shange was born and bred in Durban. Studied Music at what was then called Natal Technikon. In 1998, the legendary Busi Mhlongo saw Nicky perform and she then asked if Nicky could be her backing vocalist, which Nicky was honoured to. In 2001, Nicky moved to Johannesburg to join Joyous Celebration. Then shortly afterwards, she started doing backing vocals for Thandiswa Mazwai, Malaika, Jaziel Brothers, to name a few. As time went by, Nicky was noticed by Jonas Gwangwa whom she worked and travelled all around the world with. She also worked with Themba Mkhize and Sibongile Khumalo.

In 2015, Nicky moved back to Durban where she is currently focusing on her solo career. She has been performing all around Durban (KwaZulu Natal) honing her craft. Her band consists of Bernard Mndaweni (Bass), Sanele Phakathi (Keys) & Sbu Zondi (Drums). These are prominent musicians who have also gained a great deal of experience performing with various artists throughout the years.

Being the song writer she is, Nicky is now in the process of recording her live album. It is not easy to pin her down to one genre, as she has Soulful sounds, African rhythms and Jazz all in one. Her passion for Music shines through in her performances.
