Durban has once again birthed and unearthed great talent in the new music sensation, Thando Nyameni (also known as Thando the Soul Singer); hails from Bizana, Eastern Cape. He was discovered at the age of five by his Aunt (Nosipho) who was a budding musician at the time. She would invite him to rehearse with her and would stand as one of her backing vocalists when there was a need. This and the fact that, his whole family was captured by the Motown scene and often listened to Motown Legends in the Eighties, ( e.g. Stevie wonder, Temptations, Supremes, Smokie Robinson, etc…) helped him find his voice and led him into realizing his dream of following his passion for music.

Music Style

Velvety Voiced Thando is an Urban-Contemporary Soul Singer whose music style is a fusion of Jazz, R&B, Reggae, Hip Hop, Afro & Neo Soul, all injected with a strong element of Gospel! Through his music, a strong message of Love, Hope & Peace is evident.

To date, he has been performing professionally since the age of 14 in and around South Africa. However, the most recent and notable of his performances were during the Durban Jazz Festival where he performed alongside Music Greats such as Hugh Masekela, Zahara, Caiphus Semenya, Lira, Thandiswa Mazwai, Zakes Bantwini and many more. He has since established a fan base where some fans sing along to (some of his) songs such as Closet, Ubuntu and Mfudumalo.

Brief History & Future Plans

He was also part of the Mbongeni Ngema Academy of Excellence where he learnt to hone his musical craft and was introduced to theatre as well. Since then, he Co founded an outreach ministry in 2004 called His Will Ministries with his wife (Nyameka) where through Live Music Concerts and Outreaches; they reached out to masses in hopes of engaging normal civilians into helping the underprivileged.

To date, they have recorded 15 self-written tracks for Thando’s new album which will be launched later this year (2012). Currently we are pushing a new single “Closet” which is a Soulful song with strong elements of reggae, aimed at motivating people to avoid keeping secrets because of the consequences thereof.
