M.O.E, an acronym for Music Over Everything, currently consists and was founded by two aspiring musicians and best friends, pop vocalist Tsholofelo Mapisa and classical pianist Lee-Ann De Vries. They started this "movement" two and a half years ago, inspired by their individual journeys through music ,the music they listen to (some of which they've covered), and more importantly, the strong friendship and bond they've formed over the years since they're first year studying towards a BA music degree at UKZN until this very day. They have been largely influenced by Jazz, Hip Hop, Folk/Indie and the Alternative/Urban R&B scene, local and abroad.
Some of their favourite artists include Robert Glasper, Maxwell, Lianne La Havas, Lauryn Hill, Miguel, Frank Ocean, Zaki Ibrahim, Lira, the list goes on. Because of this broad soundscape, they've worked tirelessly towards creating acoustic music just as broad, just as honest, and just as authentic as their innermost beings. As individuals, they both picked up musical instruments at a fairly young age,Tsholo picked up the acoustic guitar at age 15 and pop voice at 18, and Lee-Ann picked up piano at the tender age of 8, & since then, have worked at nurturing their talents and the gift that is music. For them, music is escapism, its passion, its magical, a form of teleportation and for most musicians alike, it’s all they've ever had and will have, it is a way of life, one they hope the rest of the world will one day relate to. Their music and all its intricacies are reflections of who they were, who they are and who they're going to be, it’s perpetual. It’s Music Over Everything
