Zethe’s new single ‘Abantu’ calls for humanity, unity and compassion
South African vocalist Zethe’s latest single, “Abantu,”is a soul-stirring anthem that invites listeners to reconnect with their shared humanity. Rooted in the philosophy of Ubuntu, the song is a timely call for compassion, empathy, and unity—qualities often overshadowed by the chaos of modern life.
The track’s release marks a pivotal moment for Zethe, who describes her music as “medicine” for the soul. “Abantu” isn’t just a song; it’s a message—a reminder that compassion is a form of strength, and unity is a healing balm for the challenges we face. “The world can be harsh, and it’s easy to hold onto anger, but showing kindness and compassion is what makes us stronger. That’s what ‘Abantu’ is all about,” she says.
Zethe’s journey to creating her music has been deeply personal. “All the songs are pieces of my diary, especially from moments when I was navigating my own mental health challenges. Music became my way of healing, and I hope it can do the same for others.” This vulnerability resonates through “Abantu,” as her serene yet powerful vocals carry a message of love, unity, and shared humanity.

About Zethe
Originally from Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, Zethe is a rising South African artist who blends jazz, soul, and urban traditional African sounds. Her music advocates for mental health and social justice, using her distinct voice to inspire change and promote unity. She believes that music can be a form of therapy, and each song she creates is infused with a message of hope, healing, and resilience.
Zethe’s journey has been one of self-discovery and persistence. “I’ve learned that you can start fresh as many times as you need to. Every first step teaches you something,” she said. Her resilience shone through when she won the Vodacom Nxt Lvl competition in 2017, a victory that set her on a path to becoming one of South Africa’s most promising new voices. Reflecting on this, she noted, “It was like my 10-year plan condensed into a month. I suddenly had access to resources, but it was overwhelming, and I wasn’t mentally prepared.” Now, she takes pride in the patience she has cultivated, allowing her to create music that’s authentic, healing, and timeless.
